South Belgrave 21.23.149
On a day where the seniors experienced their worst loss for the year, the pride from the coaching staff in all players who pulled a jumper on was evident, as everyone gave 100% all day under trying circumstances.
The Cobras started well which was a positive sign for coming weeks, with James Lomax doing a great job all day on their gun full forward Appleby, turning defence into attack. After playing a half in the reserves, Scott Burson gave a great contest in the ruck. Hamish Giles, Jake Rowe and Cam McCasker gave plenty of run through a heavily rotated midfield. It was also great to see the return of Riley McDonald, who provided plenty of drive and marking ability.
Brent Isles hit the packs hard with plenty of impact, Lachie Giles playing a great team game and Sam Murphy continues to improve each week. More accurate kicking in the second quarter would have seen the Cobras a lot closer into the big break.
In the second half the Cobra rotations started to fall apart, as an injury to McCasker, Lachie Giles getting knocked out, our lead ruckmen Burson getting injured (with both support ruckmen already ruled out prior to game) and Andrew Mack needing to leaving for family reasons left the Cobras short. We wish Andrew and Lisa the very best and will continue to support them both at this time.
Despite these circumstances the Cobras continued to smash in and refused to throw in the towel. This endeavour will be crucial leading in to the Park Orchards match, which is a must win. The Cobras are slowly getting players back into the team; senior coach Tony Rowe has asked the team to stay positive, help each other out and to make their mark on a great club.
Best Players: R. McDonald, M. Kocurek, S. Murphy, M. Augustinus, J. Rowe, J. Lomax.

Echoing the seniors report, despite a fairly heavy loss the reserves coaching staff couldn’t be happier with the performance against a strong Belgrave side full of experience, depth and a full bench to rotate heavy legs.
Before the game and at each break Coach Zaharopoulos asked the players to show passion, courage and character. The players delivered in spades with not one player taking a backward step all day.
To quote one South Belgrave player in the last quarter of the match:
For a team that is losing by 80 points, I cannot believe how hard you are still going at the contest.
Special mentions from Theo to the following people on the weekend:
Big Al MacDonald, who worked hard all day and stayed longer then he had to, to ensure we weren’t left short. Tommy Pearce, who worked hard all day. Troy Finnin (Turbo) who was clearly best for his effort, courage and determination. And Haggs, volunteer of the week, who runs the boundary each week, and even came back to the Harp to have a beer with the boys.
Goal Kickers: J. Perillo 2, M. Auld 2, T. Zaharopoulos, J. Persson.
Best Players: T. Finnin, A. MacDonald, T. Pearce, S. Kelly, A. Boyd, J. Perillo.
