Conditions played a big part of this low-scoring affair at the Panthers home ground, with heavy going making smooth game play difficult. Though the Cobras had four scoring shots to one in the opening term, they were still behind at quarter time.
Despite being hard at the ball all day, with Craig Lashbrook tackling harder than anyone, the Cobras suffered from ill-discipline. The Cobras were goalless at half time and left with it all to do, though David Gates and Ash Boyd were getting plenty of it, and doing their best to keep the Cobras in the game.
The signs were improving in the third quarter, but another 1.4 meant that the Cobras trailled into the final break. Corey Eames-Mayer was strong around the ground, and Dave Dapiran was moved from defence into attack.
This move proved to be the difference on the day, providing a great marking target and 3 last quarter goals to seal a tough-fought win. Great to see new player Daniel Nelson also get plenty of the ball.
Goal Kickers: D. Dapiran 3, D. Gates, M. Kocurek.
Best Players: D. Dapiran, C. Lashbrook, D. Nelson, C. Eames-Mayer, D. Gates, A. Boyd.
