Name? Simon Beardall.

Number? 28.

First club you played at/were member of? Canterbury Junior Football Club.

Favourite Position? Half-Forward Flank.

If you could swap one thing with another Canterbury player or member, what would it be? I’m gonna be greedy here, but Jake’s kicking ability, Bubba’s “average” rig, Ana’s leg speed and BGA’s marking/spoiling. I’d then nominate for the next AFL national draft!

Favourite sporting moment (personal or from a player/team you support)? Making and playing in the Grand Final with Canterbury in the SFL a few years ago. A few of the older boys understand that we still have some unfinished business to attend to.

Hidden talent off the pitch? I can cook a mean salmon steak/fillet on the BBQ. It has been known to impress the fillies…

Best piece of advice you’ve never forgotten? Precious few are born with it, even fewer know what to do with it.

Your favourite thing about the Canterbury Cobras Football Club? The vibe amongst the playing group and our ability to take the mickey out of each other.

Kilsyth, Round 2 – Match Report

Canterbury recorded their first win in season 2012 with a convincing 49-point win over the Kilsyth Cougars – their first over Kilsyth since joining the EFL.

In an impressive display, Canterbury opened up the game in the first quarter, with a five goal to one opening term. Matt Pollett starred throughout the day in shutting down one of Kilsyth’s prime movers, while Rohan Walmsley was again at his consistent best.

In a fairly even second quarter, Canterbury traded goals with Kilsyth to take a four-goal lead into the long break. The game was effectively over by three quarter time, with key forward Simon Beardall and Andrew Baker having a great day up forward, with six and three goals respectively for the game. The eight goal term was enough to ice the match, as Al MacDonald and Cam McCasker controlled play in defense.

Jake Rowe also had a great day at the Snake Pit, backing up his 2011 form with another solid performance. The win places the Cobras into fifth position, looking forward to Forest Hill at home in Round 3.

RESERVES

Kilsyth 17.9.111

A hard day at the office for the reserves, with Kilsyth proving too strong. The first half provided some tough in and under football, with only two goals in the game at half time. In the second half, Kilsyth ran away with the match with better ball use and more accurate kicking in front of goal.

Some solid performances from veteran Shaun Kelly and key forwards Dave Dapiran and Heath Dent.
